Instituto Moinhos Social - Flood Relief Efforts

The Instituto Moinhos Social (IMS) has begun directing donations towards aiding the flood-stricken areas of Rio Grande do Sul since the start of May. Learn more about this initiative.

The initial step was to liaise with the Civil Defense of Rio Grande do Sul to pinpoint areas of urgent need, ensuring that assistance reaches locations authorized by public authorities.

We began by focusing on the core to Hospital Moinhos de Vento's mission: healthcare. Our team identified the necessity for establishing medical services at the Escola Municipal de Ensino Fundamental Grande Oriente do Rio Grande do Sul, situated in the Rubem Berta neighborhood. Presently, the facility accommodates approximately 300 individuals, most of whom were evacuated from the Sarandi neighborhood in Porto Alegre.

Since Saturday, May 4th, a clinic has been operational at the school staffed by a technical team comprising physicians, nurses, and a pharmacist who rotate shifts to attend to individuals, addressing various health needs resulting from the floods. Donations of supplies and medications have also been received by the Instituto Moinhos Social.

Additionally, the Hospital has set up a PIX account to collect donations from the public (moinhos.social@hmv.org.br). The institution is dedicated to reconstructing devastated areas, bolstering the efforts of the Moinhos Social Institute, promoting initiatives for social transformation, and advancing social projects.

We rely on your support to assist individuals of all age groups through endeavors in healthcare, citizenship, education, and environmental conservation. Donations of hygiene products, clothing, blankets, and other items for flood victims are also being accepted at Rua Tiradentes, 304, in Porto Alegre.

Healthcare professionals have exhibited unwavering dedication during this period of public calamity, yet their personal lives have not been immune to the impact. In line with our commitment to caring for individuals, Hospital Moinhos de Vento stands in solidarity with nearly 100 employees who face challenges accessing their homes. Throughout May, these employees require accommodations within the hospital premises to ensure uninterrupted patient care.

To provide these professionals with comfort, designated areas for overnight stays and other immediate necessities have been established within the hospital complex, with provisions of food, hygiene products, and clothing donated by the institution.

For these employees, Moinhos has launched a fundraising PIX account (moinhos.social.colaborador@hmv.org.br), which is being promoted among fellow healthcare professionals interested in supporting their colleagues. Additionally, the hospital pledges to match every R$1 donated, effectively doubling the impact.

Hospital Moinhos de Vento, through its social arm, Instituto Moinhos Social (IMS), remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting flood victims during this critical period and in the restoration of the Rio Grande do Sul community.
